Frequently Asked

Common questions before you book.

Why does a lake pump need different regulations than a well pump?
In 2016, the Idaho Division of Building Safety moved to ban standard submersible well pumps in lakes over shock-hazard concerns — a decision that set off serious pushback from lakefront homeowners across the state. In response, the Idaho Legislature passed House Bill 643, which set aside the National Electrical Code sections driving the ban and created a state task force, the Submersible Well Pump Collaborative, to write workable installation rules. Our owner, Tom Bangle, chaired that collaborative, and the framework it developed became the permanent amendment now codified in the Idaho Administrative Code (IDAPA 24.39.10.600). That's the code every lake pump we install is built to meet — ground-fault and equipment rules our own team helped write, not rules we're interpreting secondhand.
Do you service seasonal / vacation properties?
Yes — spring start-up and fall shutdown are two of our most requested services for seasonal shoreline properties. We can schedule around your visit dates.
What if my property is a rental or managed remotely?
We coordinate directly with property managers and can perform work without the owner present, with photo documentation sent after every visit.
How fast can you respond to a failed pump?
Emergency service calls are typically responded to within 24 hours, faster during peak season. Call (208) 610-8822 directly for urgent issues.
How can I have a lake pump that won't freeze?
Timing is everything. In fall and early winter, most lakes are drawn down to make room for spring snowmelt — and that draw-down gives us a great window to get equipment into the lake and bury the line below frost depth, the same way a standard water line is buried. Installed that way, your system is set up to handle winter without freezing.
Can I really drink water straight from the lake?
With the right system, yes. North Idaho and Western Montana lakes are fed by snowmelt and mountain runoff, which puts them among the highest-quality source water in the country to begin with. On top of that, every drinking system we install includes a 3-stage water filtration setup plus a UV disinfection stage, so sediment, bacteria, and other microorganisms are removed before the water ever reaches your tap — giving you water that's more than safe to drink, not just filtered enough to pass.
Do you only do lake pumps, or can you help with septic and wells too?
IdahoLakePumps.com is our lake specialty site, but we're backed by Pumpline's full team — wells, well pumps, septic systems, and electrical controls are all in-house.
